Homeschooling Center

A Private School Independent Study Program

To enrich and preserve homeschooling independence, The School of Choice Independent Study Program assists families who care enough to teach their own children with a challenging classical education curriculum taken on flexible schedules at affordable prices.

The School of Choice operates a College-Prep Academy near Highway 280 and Saratoga Ave. Our Independent Study Program (ISP) will assist gifted homeschoolers who seek a "classical" or "liberal" educational curriculum consistent with California law at less cost than private schools, while they share more time with their children than is possible in day schools. This independent, non-denominational day school at our Dunford Campus in Sunnyvale, offers ISP registration and graduation assistance to students in all grades. Our flexible and affordable programs enable parents to enroll students with us full-time, to take just a few classes, to study by tutorial in person or even to study online.

We encourage homeschooling all the way to outstanding colleges by offering classes geared to the University of California's A to G requirements, and AP classes which are accepted by colleges which refuse JC credits. We help you to homeschool -- at home -- by offering individualized instruction up to age 18. The School of Choice sponsors students in an Independent Study Program and maintains required records with the state for a small registration fee ($300 per year), but parents are welcome to register elsewhere. We particularly enjoy giving curricular counseling or instruction for students in this program.

Like the California Homeschool Network, we support "...the fundamental right of the family to educate its children in the manner it deems appropriate..." Many parents will exercise this right in the most loving and personal way possible: by taking fundamental responsibility for their children's education. Thus they may avoid the unhealthy social atmosphere of many schools, their regimented schedules, credentialed, unionized, teachers and compulsory curricula, their low standards and lack of individual attention.

In light of these disadvantages, we believe many parents can do better on their own, particularly if they offer their children a rigorous classical curriculum. Parents must exercise the right level of discipline, not too hard and not too soft. They must help children to want to learn, to raise their attention span as they inspire children with confidence so that they will want to continue. We help families solve problems with behavioral and learning difficulties, methods and curricula, testing, and goal setting. With our assistance, homeschooling parents can succeed as classical educators.
